Rep. Pat Fallon Announces Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program
ROTC students may apply for up to $10,000 annual scholarship
Little Elm, TX – State Representative Pat Fallon (R-Frisco) recently opened the application period for the second annual Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program for House District 106 in Denton County.
“I can’t think of a better use of these scholarship funds than supporting our next generation of military leaders,” said Fallon, a former ROTC cadet at the University of Notre Dame and officer in the United States Air Force. “We live in the greatest, freest nation on earth because of the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.”
The Texas Armed Services Scholarship, administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), was created by the Texas Legislature in 2009 to assist promising students from throughout the state who are committed to education and service. It encourages young leaders to participate in Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) programs at Texas institutions of higher learning and to become commissioned officers in the United States Armed Services or members of the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air Force National Guard, the Texas State Guard, or the United States Merchant Marine force. Each member of the Texas Legislature is able to appoint one qualified student for the annual accolade.
To apply for Representative Fallon’s nomination, students must meet the minimum qualifications set forth by the THECB and reside or claim residency in House District 106.
For more information about the program and to obtain an application packet, contact Representative Fallon’s district office at (469) 362-0500. The application period for the 2014-2015 school year will close on June 10, 2014.
